Police rescue kidnap victim, five arrested

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — Police last night rescued a kidnap victim and arrested five people believed to be the abductors.

Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said today the victim, a 23-year-old man, was rescued at a restaurant near the Danau Kota flats in Jalan Genting Klang at 9.20pm.

Three men aged 22, 27 and 31 years who were with the victim were arrested, he told Bernama.

Ku said the three suspects led police to a premises in Jalan Pahang where a man and his wife, aged 28 and 22 respectively, were arrested.

The room where the couple were found is believed to have been where the victim was held captive, he added.

“At the time of the rescue, the victim was shivering with fright. An examination showed a long cut on his right hand and a severed right toe,” Ku said.

He also said that police found a 49cm machete and a 30cm meat cleaver at the two places of arrest.

Ku said the man’s 22-year-old stepbrother had received a telephone call from one of the abductors who demanded RM3,000 and threatened to harm the victim unless the demand was met.

The stepbrother lodged a report at the Setapak police station and police set up a special squad to rescue the victim, he added. — Bernama
