KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today extended his condolences to the family of Mohd Yusrizal Mat Zain, 32, a school clerk who was killed when a package he collected from the roof of a vehicle exploded in his hands in Tumpat, Kelantan, today.
Muhyiddin said in a statement that he was saddened by the incident, more so because it happened when Muslims were celebrating Aidilfitri.
The deputy prime minister urged the police to conduct the investigation speedily and identify the culprit who had placed the package on the multi-purpose vehicle belonging to Mohd Yusrizal’s brother-in-law in front of his in-law’s house in Taman Seri Periuk, Kampung Periuk, Tumpat.
Kelantan CID chief ACP Lai Yong Heng had said that Mohd Yusrizal suffered injuries in both his hands and abdomen and died on the spot.
He said Mohd Yusrizal was from Kampung Kenor, Kuala Krai, and had worked as a clerk at Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Manik Urai, Kuala Krai.
He had come to visit his in-laws last night with his wife and their four-month-old daughter. — Bernama
