KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 — Although the legal battles she has endured since 2009 have ended in her favour, Indira Gandhi, 40, feels she is at the losing end in the court of affection.
The mother of three had successfully secured custody of her three children last year, and quashed their conversion to Islam recently, but is agonising for her younger daughter who is still with her estranged husband.
The kindergarten teacher said not a day passes without her thinking of her Prasana Diksa, who is now five years old.
“At work, the children I teach in the kindergarten remind me of Prasana. I wonder how she would look in her kindergarten uniform and how fast is she learning her ABC and numbers,” Indira said.
She said she always wondered if Prasana had someone to sing nursery rhymes and read bed time stories to her like how her two older siblings had.
Indira’s nightmares began in April 2009 when her husband, Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah, took the birth certificates of her children and left with Prasana.
After lodging a police report, she found out that Mohd Ridzuan, formerly K. Patmanathan, had converted the children to Islam without her consent.
Since then, Indira had met Prasana only once during a court hearing when Mohd Ridzuan was instructed by the court to bring her along.
Despite winning her bid in the High Court — and the Federal Court upholding the decision to grant her custody of Prasana — Mohd Ridzuan has yet to hand over her daughter to her.
On July 25, the Ipoh High Court also nullified the conversion of Indira’s there children in a landmark decision.
Indira said she was thankful that her two other children — Tevi Darsiny, 16, and Karan Dinish, 15 — were her strength and motivation throughout the nightmare she faced since 2009.
