IPOH, Aug 8 — A man is in hospital after he was hit four times by two gunmen on a motorcycle while he was driving in Taman Klebang Putra in Chemor near here last night.
A report in The Star Online today said the assailants fired at least six shots.
“The man was driving with two people inside the car, believed to be his family members,” OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong was quoted as telling reporters today.
The two were not injured during the incident.
“The assailants wore full-face helmets and no one was able to determine who they were.
“The victim has been hospitalised after the attack with his condition stable and not critical,” Sum said.
He also said police found six slugs on the road where the incident took place.
“The victim is in no condition to talk and we will get some statements from him later,” he said.
A surge in gun violence has captured the nation’s attention in recent days, after nine shootings took place in nearly as many days this week.
Among the nine were the assassination of Arab Malaysian Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi in a busy car park in the heart of Kuala Lumpur on July 29 just three days after the attempted murder of anti-crime activist R. Sri Sanjeevan at a traffic light junction in Jempol, Negri Sembilan.
Prime Minister Dartuk Seri Najib Razak had pledged his government’s commitment to consider “anything” the police needs to fight serious crime, including extra powers under a new law that is expected to be tabled in the next Parliament session in September.
