SUNGAI PETANI, Aug 5 — Three women and an 11-year-old girl were killed while a man was injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a lorry along Jalan Sidam Kiri-Kuala Ketil near here at 5.45pm yesterday.

Those killed were identified as Tan Sou Kim, 50, Tan Siew Chin @ Doad Serni, 45, Ong Siew Yan (age not known) and Tan Jit May, 11.

The injured was identified as Hou Guan Ting, 18, from Jalan Pergam, Sungai Petani.

A witness, who only wanted to be identified as Arumugam, in his 40s, said when he arrived at the location, he saw a man in the car groaning in pain and asking for help.

He said he and several individuals helped to pull out the man from the wreck.

Kuala Muda Traffic and Public Order chief DSP Ahmad Kamil Ahmad said the dead were sent to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital here for a post-mortem while the injured victim was warded for treatment at the same hospital.

It is understood the five were heading to Sungai Petani town from Sidam when the accident took place. — Bernama
