Selangor plan to increase use of public transport

KLANG, Aug 2 — The Selangor government said today it plans to set up a special committee to find ways to increase the use of public transportation and help reduce traffic congestion in the state.

Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the committee would be headed by him and the Selangor Town and Country Planning Department would serve as the secretariat.

The committee would ensure that people in Selangor enjoy an efficient public transportation service without the need to use private vehicles, he said.

“We have noticed that the increase in private vehicles has led to massive traffic congestion and road accidents and, as such, an efficient public transportation is needed to resolve the problem,” he told reporters after launching the Selangor-level road-safety campaign in conjunction with Aidilfitri at the Sungai Rasau toll plaza here. — Bernama
