BALIK PULAU, July 17 — The police are in the midst of tracking down a man who escaped while in the process of being remanded at the George Town magistrate’s court near here today.
Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the suspect, Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman, was being brought to the court to obtain a remand order under section 12 (3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He said that in the 2.30pm incident, the suspect who was not handcuffed ran off while being escorted by policemen.
He was speaking to reporters at a breaking of fast with the Southwest Penang community here.
Abdul Rahim said those policemen involved in escorting the suspect would be investigated for alleged negligence. — Bernama
