KPWKM works with Plus to tackle child beggars at rest stops
Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 — The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) is collaborating with Projek Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan (Plus) to curb child beggars at the rest and service areas (RSAs) throughout the country.

Its Deputy Minister, Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun said Plus would always monitor the situation in all RSAs and if there were complaints from the public, Plus would rescue the children and hand them over to the Welfare Department for further action.

She said this in reply to a question from Datuk Noor Ehsanuddin Mohd Harun Narrashid (BN-Kota Tinggi) at the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.

Azizah said that from 2008 to 2012, her ministry had rescued 232 children from being exploited including using them as beggars. — Bernama
