KUALA BESUT, July 17 — PAS is promising to improve the lives of the people in Terengganu by implementing welfare policies, provided Kuala Besut voters deny Barisan Nasional (BN) their single-seat majority which would be a first step towards the Islamic party regaining the state.
Party deputy president Mohamed Sabu said they just needed Kuala Besut to make it even — 16 seats for both sides — and if two election petitions filed against BN for alleged fraud are successful, PAS could form the state government.
At a ceramah on Monday night, he said PAS would implement welfare policies if it won Terengganu, to give the people a better life, just like the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) government of Selangor and Penang.
The ceramah, attended by some 100 people, was a sombre affair by by-elections standards as Mat Sabu did not project his fiery oratorical skill because of Ramadan.
Some local residents also complained that nothing new came out of the ceramah because of the general election just concluded two months ago.
They are still waiting for projects promised during the general election to start.
