PRAI, July 11 – Customs officers have arrested two Indonesian women who attempted to smuggle into the country 9.19 kg of methamphetamine (syabu) valued at RM1.75 million via the Penang international airport in two incidents.

One of the women, aged 32, was arrested at 9.30pm on July 9 as she tried to bring in three kg of the drug valued at RM570,000 stored in four plastic packs in a special compartment in her luggage, said Penang Customs director Datuk Zulkifli Yahya today.

He said the other woman, aged 25, was caught at 9.20pm yesterday after Customs officers found a brown package which contained 6.19kg of the drug valued at RM1.17 million in her luggage.

Zulkifli said the two women were believed to have entered Malaysia for the first time and had flown in on a flight from New Delhi via Hong Kong.

They had been remanded for 14 days for investigation, he added. – Bernama
