KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 ― Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is considering a bid to expunge the portion of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s Royal Address calling for all parties to accept the outcome of Election 2013, alleging it to be an attempt by Barisan Nasional (BN) to seal the contentious result of the May 5 polls.

Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (picture) said the pact is weighing a motion to have the Royal Address amended since both BN and PR have filed their respective election petitions to challenge the results from several constituencies in court.

“We express our gratitude to his royal decree (but) election petitions have been filed so we are considering proposing an amendment because we feel it is inappropriate to include the endorsement of the election results in the royal address.

“Petitions have been filed by both BN and PR (and) if we give our endorsement to the (that part of the Royal Address) then the petitions will mean nothing. So we will propose a motion to remove the validation of the results,” he told reporters in his Parliament office here.

Anwar said PR may submit the motion by tomorrow or Thursday before the respective ministerial winding up on the Royal Address ends.

While the opposition continued to rally against BN’s polls victory, the King had called on all parties to accept the Election 2013 outcome and help move the country forward together.

Tuanku Abdul Halim Muad’zam Shah’s statement, made in his opening address of the 13th Parliament on June 25, came amid widespread opposition protest against alleged fraudulence in the recently-concluded May 5 general election.

Apart from holding a series of street protests dubbed “Black 505”, the opposition has also mounted a massive legal action to challenge the results in more than 30 seats to force a re-election in these constituencies.

Anwar had in the past claimed that the King’s speech calling for the people to accept Election 2013’s result came from Najib’s office to solicit support.

The contentious issue had been consistently raised by opposition lawmakers for the past two weeks in the parliamentary debate on the Royal Address.

Putrajaya has so far remained silent on the matter.
