Excavation caused Ukay Perdana landslide, says Azmin Ali

SHAH ALAM, July 3 – The “landslide” that occurred at Ukay Perdana in Ampang was caused by an excavation.

Gombak MP and Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman Azmin Ali said excavation works were being carried out when the slope gave way around 11am Wednesday and buried four construction workers. Three of the workers were killed.

According to a Star Online report, the three dead workers were from Myanmar, while a Bangladeshi worker was being treated at the Ampang Hospital.

Azmin said a team from the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) had inspected the site on Monday, and found nothing amiss.

“It is part of a routine inspection, and they were there to monitor the development of the slope and construction work.

“At that time, there were no signs that safety was compromised,” he told reporters at the lobby of the Selangor state assembly.
