All views on child conversion will be considered, says minister
Jamil Khir Baharom --choo choy may

KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — De facto Islamic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom (picture) said today all views on Muslim conversion of minors will be considered even though the government had tabled its proposal in Parliament last week.

Non-Muslim groups, the Malaysian Bar and politicians on both sides of the divide have expressed concern about section 107(b) of the Administration of Islamic Law (Federal Territories) Bill 2013 that was tabled in Parliament last Wednesday, calling the law unjust as it allows a child to be converted to Islam with the consent of just one parent.

“We will look at it as best as possible by referring to all views,” the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department told reporters after a function at the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) here.
