IRB on track to achieve RM130b tax collection target

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — The country’s political stability and strong second-half gross domestic product (GDP) growth last year will help the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) achieve its target of RM130 billion in tax collection this year.

Its chief executive officer, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukor Mahfar, said the strong domestic development so far was due to the initiatives taken by the government under the Economic Transformation Programme.

“Last year’s strong GDP performance has positively affected the national economy in the first six months of this year as reflected in the good business environment,” he told reporters after the opening the National Tax Conference 2013 here today.

Mohd Shukor said the introduction of HASiL4u, a rebranding of Taxpayer Service Month (BPPC)/(Bulan Perkhidmatan Pembayar Cukai) service, has also helped in the collection process.

BPPC, which used to run from March to June every year to help taxpayers, is now opened throughout the year.

The revenue collecting agency collected RM86.48 billion in 2010, RM109.68 billion in 2011 and RM124.87 billion in 2012. — Bernama
