OSLO, Oct 29 — Norway’s tourism authority yesterday used President Donald Trump’s derogatory comments about the country to vaunt the beauty of its toilets.
The US president, highlighting his anger at not winning the Nobel Peace Prize, called Norway a “shithouse country” at a rally on Sunday. Trump added that he did not want migrants from the Nordic state.
“We heard some noise about the ‘s+++house country’. Well, what we can say, we do have some of the most spectacular toilets in the world. With Love, Visit Norway,” the tourism agency said in a Facebook post.
It added pictures of some of the elegant latrines that it boasts with the headline ‘Meet the world’s most beautiful (s++t h++++s) toilets.”
Pictured was one rest room at the bottom of a hill overlooking a fjord. Others were situated next to a river or with various breathtaking panoramas in the country renowned for its rugged countryside.
Trump let rip at a rally in Michigan ahead of the US mid-term elections next week.
“Frankly, Norway sucks. Norway has become a shithouse country, actually,” he declared.
Trump said he would welcome immigrants from certain countries but not Norway “because I didn’t get the Nobel Prize.”
This year’s peace prize, awarded by a Norwegian committee, went to South African judge and rights defender Navi Pillay.
In general, Trump’s comments had little impact in Norway. Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide responded by maintaining that the government has no role in the Nobel peace prize.
“He (Trump) knows very well that the Nobel Committee is independent. We have reminded him of that, in case anyone is wondering — and that is still the case,” he said. — AFP
