KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — Pro-Net has officially launched the new Proton e.MAS 5, which has been deemed Malaysia’s first affordable EV. The new electric hatchback is the second fully-electric offering from the national automaker after the Proton e.MAS 7, which was launched late last year.

Proton e.MAS 5 is essentially the first EV in Malaysia to be officially priced at under RM100,000. While the first batch will come from China, the EV has been earmarked for local assembly (CKD) at Proton’s new EV plant in Tanjung Malim.

Proton e.MAS 5 was officially introduced to the public at Malaysia Autoshow 2025 back in May. In early August, Pro-Net began to preview the new EV all over Malaysia through the nationwide Misi 5 Tour, covering both West and East Malaysia.

Within the same month, the company has officially revealed the general specs for the e.MAS 5 Premium, which is the higher-end option for the new EV, alongside its Alabaster White interior. The specs for the base variant, e.MAS 5 Prime was subsequently revealed earlier this month alongside the general estimated pricing for the EV.

Despite the previous RM60,000 – RM80,000 estimated pricing, the finalised pricing for e.MAS 5 are much lower. Here they are:

  • Proton e.MAS 5 Prime: RM59,800
  • Proton e.MAS 5 Premium: RM72,800

In addition, they are giving a special launch rebate of RM3,000.

e.MAS 5 can be obtained in 5 different colourways, with two of them reserved for the Premium variant — Marble Cream and Quartz Rose. Both of these colourways also feature the Alabaster White interior.

Proton e.MAS 5 quick specs

The Proton e.MAS 5 comes in two variants, including the high-spec e.MAS 5 Premium. Powered by a 40.16kWh LFP battery and featuring an 85kW (114hp) motor with 150Nm of torque, the Premium variant is capable of delivering a WLTP-rated range of 325km.

On the other hand, there is also the e.MAS 5 Prime, which is equipped with a 30.12kWh LFP battery alongside a 58kW (78hp) motor with 130Nm of torque. Given the smaller battery capacity, the range of the Prime variant is also much lower at 225km according to the WLTP standards.

In terms of charging, the DC charging speed of e.MAS 5 Prime was not revealed before today’s launch event, but Pro-Net has previously said that it takes 21 minutes to charge this variant from 30 per cent to 80 per cent. The DC charging time is similar to the e.MAS 5 Premium, which we know has a DC charging speed of 71kW.

Both e.MAS 5 variants are equipped with a 6.6kW 1-phase AC charging. It takes around 4.3 hours to charge the e.MAS 5 Prime from 10 per cent to 100 per cent via AC charging while the e.MAS 5 Premium takes slightly longer at 5.9 hours since it has a larger battery.

Other features that are exclusive to the Premium variant include 16-inch alloy wheels, a 360-degree camera, LED headlights, and a powered tailgate. The Premium variant also has an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that covers features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward & Rear Collision Warning (FCW/RCW), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), and many more.

There are still many features that both e.MAS Premium and Prime share, including 70L frunk, 28L rear underseat storage space, 375L to 1320L of boot space, 14.6-inch full HD infotainment display with Atlas Auto operating system, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay support, integrated live EV charging map, Proton e.MAS App support, leatherette seats, rear-wheel drive setup, and rear multi-link suspension. — SoyaCincau
