KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 — Cos-Mic 2025 officially kicked off today at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, drawing in passionate fans of anime, comics, and games (ACG).
The first day was packed with energy, featuring everything from karaoke booths and interactive games to KPop Demon Hunters showcases — a treat for cosplay enthusiasts and ACG lovers alike.
It’s shaping up to be an exciting year for the ACG community, with AniManGaki recently wrapping up, and Cos-Mic adds yet another highlight to the calendar, which will run until this Sunday.
Still relatively new to the scene, Cos-Mic was founded by an ACG enthusiast who goes by the name Ham How and it has quickly begun to make a name for itself within Malaysia’s vibrant pop culture circuit.
The purpose of Cos-Mic and why it’s different
“The purpose of starting this event is that we actually wanted to bring more IPs and different experiences to the audience in Malaysia,” said How.
“We also want to attract people from neighbouring countries to experience things that are rarely possible through truly unique IPs.
“We would also like to elevate cosplayers, photographers, and content creators,” he added.
With established giants like AniManGaki and Comic Fiesta already dominating the scene, what sets Cos-Mic apart?
According to How, Cos-Mic places greater emphasis on corporate brands and brand activations.
“AniManGaki and Comic Fiesta, they are amazing, they are the pioneers of this industry.
“I occasionally attend them always.
“What we are doing is not to compete but to open more ways to give out different experiences,” he said.
Why call it Cos-Mic?
The name reflects the scale and spirit of the team behind the event.
“We actually have our own group of cosplayers known as the Cos-Mic Stars,” said How.
“We also have our own activation team, production crew, and designers — most of them are in-house, and now we even have our own Cos-Mic studios.
“With so many elements coming together under one roof, we thought: why not call it Cos-Mic — like a cosmic universe,” he added.
Why is this year special?
This year marks a milestone for Cos-Mic, as it ushers in a new era of exciting partnerships with major brands like Bandai and Sony.
In addition, one standout highlight would be the Bandai Namco Music Festival, set to take place this Saturday, featuring a star-studded lineup of Japanese artists, including Mekakushe, Nowlu, nano.RIPE, Kumano BearTrice, and HG — all taking the stage to deliver unforgettable performances.
This year also brings star appearances from influencers and cosplayers — including fan favourite Rurusama, whose appearance earlier today drew a huge, enthusiastic crowd and helped make the first day of Cos-Mic unforgettable.
The future of Cos-Mic
Though Cos-Mic is still relatively young — just four years in — it has already made a name for itself with steady growth and increasing recognition.
“Of course, there have been ups and downs,” said How.
“Mistakes were made, and we’re still learning.
“But every mistake doesn’t define who we are — it’s how we overcome them that make us better.”
Looking ahead, How hinted at even bigger things to come next year.
“There are more opportunities on the horizon, especially with next year being our fifth anniversary — and it’s going to be amazing,” he shared.
“Some things are already confirmed, and we’re really excited about what’s coming.”
