KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — Engagements couples can break up for various reasons such family conflicts, different values and even money problems.
A Twitter user, Farra Diana and her partner broke up because they found out both of them have the inherited blood disorder thalassemia, Coconuts KL reported.
Farra boldly shared her own engagement breakup story on social media in a recent viral post that has gained the sympathy of many online users.
Thalassemia causes the body to have less haemoglobin, a protein which produces red blood cells and causes two carriers' offspring to suffer anaemic symptoms.
Farra found out that she had thalassemia after she decided to check just in case, knowing that her ex-partner also had the blood disorder.
The revelation sent the couple into a few months of hard discussions as both of them wished to bear children after their marriage.
She shared that the couple realised their future baby would have to rely on blood transfusions to be healthy and would have to bear various medical treatments.
"As much as I agreed to what he said ‘We shouldn’t be selfish. We fell in love and met each other pun, is a blessing. But kesian (pity) our future baby,’” Farra wrote on Twitter.
"But I was still hoping there’s a miracle. In the end, we both agreed this is the best way.”
After sharing her difficult decision on social media, Farra and her former lover received an outpouring of consolation from online users.
Yesterday (May 30), Farra shared an update, thanking online users for their messages. She found it hard to reply to every ‘kind soul’ without crying.
