KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — Fans of American celebrity Selena Gomez were disappointed after learning their idol did not attend the Met Gala, yet again.

They were initially excited that the Calm Down singer had attended the event, only to find out that the picture of Gomez which went viral on social media was actually doctored.

In the photo, the 30-year-old was wearing a sheer one-shoulder dress with blue pearls, New York Post reported.

A check found Gomez’s face was photoshopped on actress Lily James’ 2022 Met Gala look by Versace, with the outfit edited to a different shade of blue.

Aside from the fact that Gomez did not attend the Met Gala this year, there are other glaring inconsistencies in the photo that were picked up by her fans.

Most noted that the red carpet Gomez was photoshopped onto is not the toothpaste-coloured one from this year.

Some of the colours were also poorly blended, making it clear the picture was digitally altered.

Despite that, it did not stop the doctored photo from gaining traction.

As of today (May 3), a Twitter post of the photo has been viewed 22 million times and retweeted 31,200 times. It also received 388,900 likes.

Gomez has been giving the Met Gala a miss since 2018.
