KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 — A kolo mee seller in Miri, Sarawak is doing his part to help people that cannot afford a meal by offering them free food.

To claim the free meal, they just need to tell Kiew Kong Yen "Mau 1 Mee Jumpa Lagi” (Want One Mee Let’s Meet Again).

The 30-year-old told Malay Mail via telephone that he has given out more than 10 bowls of noodles daily to the needy since starting to offer the free meal from March 25.

According to Kiew, he got the idea to help the people after serving a customer who is a person with disabilities.

"Sometimes he would come to my stall with just RM2 and order a bowl of noodles. But I never insisted that he pay up the balance,” he said, adding that the customer had since stopped coming to his stall.

To publicise his offer, a dual language banner in Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia has been put up at the shop where Kiew operates his business at.

On it, it is stated that whoever is in need and hungry can go to Kiew’s stall and tell him Mau 1 Mee Jumpa Lagi.

After eating they can leave and need not feel ashamed.

"My only hope is when you have the capabilities, help others too,” the banner added.

Kiew said some of his regular customers also encouraged his good deed by paying extra for their meals.

"Sometimes they tell me not to return the change to them but to use it to buy food to help the needy instead.”

Kiew operates at First Cafe, Lorong Desa Senadin 2C-1, Desa Senadin, Off Jalan Lutong-Kuala Baram, in Miri, Sarawak.

It is open daily from 6am to 6pm and closed every fortnight on Wednesdays.
