The Axia has grown up with better fuel economy

Malay Mail

The new Axia is longer, wider and more spacious than the previous generation. Even the wheelbase of 2,525mm is longer than the current Myvi which has a wheelbase of 2,500mm. The new model uses the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform, which is currently used by the new Alza and Ativa. While it retains a familiar 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine, Perodua has ditched the old 4-speed auto transmission and replaced it with a more advanced Dual-Mode CVT (D-CVT).

This combo produces 67hp and 91Nm of torque, and it delivers a claimed fuel economy of up to 27.4 km per litre with the Eco Idle start-stop system or 25.3 km per litre without the feature. This means you could possibly push over 800km of driving range on a full 36-litre tank of petrol with frugal driving.

At the moment, the new Perodua Axia 2023 is only offered in auto and there’s no baseline Axia E grade variant with a manual transmission. The new Axia G which is the baseline variant costs about RM4,000-RM5,000 more than the outgoing Axia G but it packs more features as standard. It gets hill start assist, Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with EBD and BA, and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). Like the previous Axia, it still gets two airbags. ISOFIX child seat anchor points and height-adjustable driver seat are also included as standard.

While the base model gets a monotone instrument panel, it still gets a 4.2″ LCD multi-info display. It still rides on 14″ alloy wheels and uses halogen headlights and a rear combi lamp which still uses bulbs. It gets standard audio system which supports MP3 and Bluetooh.

Perodua Axia X

Moving up a notch to the Axia X for an extra RM1,400, the car gets auto LED headlamps with headlight levelling and follow me home function. It also features front parking sensors and also smart entry with a push start button. For the first time on an Axia, it also gets a tilt steering wheel which helps you to get the right driving position.

Perodua Axia SE

The Axia SE adds a couple more modern touches for an extra RM4,000 over the Axia X. It gets LED day-time-running lights, a power mode on the steering wheel, digital controls for the aircon, front skirting, chrome grille for the front, a semi-bucket seats and side skirting.

There’s also a 9″ LCD touchscreen infotainment system with HDMI, and a 7″ TFT multi-information display. The digital displays, steering controls and dashboard design look similar to the current Perodua Ativa compact SUV.

The biggest addition is Perodua’s Advanced Safety Assist features which include Lane Departure Warning and prevention, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. It also gets 6 airbags, which is a first for the Axia and it also gets auto high beam. ― SoyaCincau
