PETALING JAYA, June 2 — One of the most daunting aspects of any festive season is figuring out what to wear.
With two weeks left before Hari Raya celebrations begin, it is never a good idea to leave fashion decisions at the last minute.
Not sure what looks good or is in fashion this year? Malay Mail speaks to homegrown fashion designers, hijab experts and beauty brands to help you look your best this Hari Raya.
HIJAB TRENDS
TudungPeople co-founder Fazrena Aziz
1. Less is more.
"It’s no longer trendy to wear clashing colours or over the top styles with your hijab. Stick to simple and elegant hijab styles. The simplest styles prove to be the best, especially for Raya with those naughty nieces and nephews.”
2. Stand out with limited edition designs.
"There is a variety of limited collection pieces made by local designers, you need to get your hands on those to be the unique one in your kampung.”
Fazrena’s hijab style tips:
- Stay away from frills and styles that need more than three pins.
- Work with colours from the same tone as your baju Raya, go a tone darker or lighter from your outfit.
- Go for printed scarves if your outfit is a solid colour.
Ethnic motifs on scarves are a hot trend this Raya.

Noridah Bahari goes for prints
"A hot trend this Raya is ethnic motifs, but florals never seem to go out of style. This year, we’ve chosen motifs that represent the message of Aidilfitri using moon and stars patterns as well as minimal blooms.
"We’ve also taken the classic route with soft but elegant colours.
"For those who like plain tudungs, HerMajesty offers 16 colours for tudung bawal and 18 colours for shawls.”
Nita Cosmetics founder Aznita Azman
"You’ll see lots of people with dewy cheekbones. I hope this trend continues because I love this look — it really accentuates your features.
"I love using Nita’s Moist Jumbo Lipsticks (RM25) and apply it on my cheeks because it’s an easy, one-second application and it gives you that healthy glow.”
Aznita’s tips to keep your makeup fresh all day during open houses: "I have oily skin and I always bring with me pressed powder, a mini brush and a hydrating face mist.
"When you go Raya visiting, the face mist is a must especially for our weather.
"What I do is, buy a mini mist bottle from Daiso and transfer my favourite face mist in it. The less weight the better.”
Angelyn Chong said matte lipsticks generally stay on longer.

Chong’s tips on keeping makeup in place:
- Apply primer before makeup and complete the look with a setting spray for a long-lasting finish.
- For lips, matte lipsticks generally stay on longer.
- Apply a layer of gloss if lips feel dry.
