HONG KONG, March 10 — Art Basel Hong Kong has offered up a new teaser of "Twenty-Five Minutes Older” by Hong Kong artist Kingsley Ng, a free installation taking place during the art fair this month, and for which online registration is now open.
Hong Kong’s trams were inaugurated in 1904 and are a landmark of the city, where they are known as "ding dings.”
"Twenty-Five Minutes Older” will turn two public trams into moving camera obscuras, allowing passengers to experience the city’s street life in reverse.
In the installation, passing images of Hong Kong as seen from the trams will be accompanied by spoken text from Liu Yichang’s novella Tête-bêche.
From March 20 to 28, trams will run daily between Causeway Bay and Western Market, Sheung Wan.
This week Art Basel shared a minute-long look at the installation, which was first presented in 2016 as part of a public art exhibition celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
Online registration is now open for the installation, which is free and runs March 20-28.
