TOKYO, Sept 30 — After several false starts, it appears that the world has found its viral song of 2016 at last.

Behold, Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen by Piko Taro, the alias of Japanese comedian/DJ Kosaka Daimaou.

Insanely catchy as only the best earworm tunes can be, the PPAP song has taken the internet by storm in recent days after it was shared on the website 9gag.

Just 51 seconds long, the music video shows the 43-year-old Daimaou dressed in gold and animal print with a pencil thin moustache as he bops to a catchy electric beat overlaid with spoken English lyrics.

At the time of writing, it has chalked up almost 12 million views on YouTube.

Justin Bieber even claims to love it.

Naturally, several parodies have already popped up, including one featuring our very own Amber Chia.
