China hot under the collar over sexy banana-eating ban
Malay Mail

BEIJING, May 10 — Ah, the Internet and its promise of forbidden fruit — perhaps a little too bountiful for authorities in China.

Indeed, multiple media outlets reported the powers that be are so worried about the situation a ban has been enforced on Chinese live-streaming sites prohibiting people from filming themselves eating bananas in a “seductive” manner.

The BBC reported, quoting New Express Daily, that sites which stream live are being monitored around the clock to ensure there is no “erotic” banana-eating.

The ban isn’t just limited to bananas — the paper added that the wearing of stockings and suspenders while hosting a live stream is now also forbidden.

According to China state media CCTV, it’s all part of a move by the Ministry of Culture to curb “inappropriate” material online in an ongoing investigation of sites that host pornographic or violent content that “harms social morality”.

The BBC added that such sites are particularly popular for the webcam sessions where young women entertain a predominantly male audience by singing, chatting and presumably tucking into bananas.

Naturally, the ban was a hot topic on social media, with plenty of people pointing out that bananas are not the only fruit.

One user suggested, “They will all start eating cucumbers, and if that’s no good, yams.”
