TOKYO, Feb 19 — A flourishing flower garden in Shintomi Town in Miyazaki Prefecture is special not just for its beautiful pink shibazakura blooms, but for why it exists.

The garden is on the property of elderly couple Mr and Mrs Kuroki. After Mrs Kuroki became blind from diabetes complications, Mr Kuroki attempted to cheer her up by planting the garden.

Mrs Kuroki had been devastated by her blindness and had shut herself away from the world, but as the garden bloomed, so did her desire to go outside and smell the flowers that she could not see.

Now 7,000 people on average visit the garden in March to April daily. It's testament to a sweet love story and a simple gesture for a loving husband for his wife.
