SINGAPORE, Feb 17 — John Paul Young may have sung a song called Love Is In the Air, but love was in the air — quite literally — when Benjamin Lee and Janessa Li Ling expressed their love 40,000 feet above sea level: They had their wedding onboard a Scoot 787 Dreamliner as it flew to Perth, much to the surprise of the other passengers.
The wedding was a result of a search for “the most unromantic person in Singapore” that was organised by the budget airline. The marriage papers were signed at the airport before the couple were whisked onboard the Dreamliner for the ceremony proper.
According to Campbell Wilson, the CEO for the airline, this isn’t the first time that Scoot has done something out of the ordinary while in the air. TODAY understands that the airline occasionally gets out of the ordinary requests from passengers; but this is the first time there has been a wedding ceremony on one of the flights.
Wilson said that the airline had previously facilitated numerous birthday parties and anniversary celebrations over the past four years of its operations.
“We’ve hosted numerous onboard wedding proposals — including a great effort from one of our crew — and in 2013, Flight TZ301 saw world’s longest inflight kiss stretch all the way from Bangkok to Singapore,” he said.
Wilson added: “This Valentine’s Day we’ve jumped in to help Benjamin — nominated by his fiancee as the most unromantic person around — tie the knot with the lovely Janessa while Scootin’ to Perth. All of us at Scoot are delighted to have played our little part in Benjamin and Janessa’s celebration, and to help make their big day both a bit different and something memorable.”
The couple are currently on their honeymoon in Perth and could not be contacted for comment at press time. — TODAY
