KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 — You can watch the best short films from around South East Asia this month thanks to Yayasan Sime Darby’s Arts Festival 2016 (YSDAF2016).
Appropriately named Best of Tropfest SEA (Tropfest South East Asia), you can watch the screening of 28 top entries from the region’s biggest short film festival scheduled from December 18 to 20, 2015 at the Kuala Lumpur Performance Arts Centre (KLPac).
Tropfest SEA is part of Tropfest, which is the world’s largest short film festival that has expanded internationally to include competitions and festivals in New Zealand, North America, South East Asia and the Middle East.
The forthcoming Best of Tropfest SEA, organised in partnership with Joe Sidek Productions, will showcase the top films that made it to the finals of the 2014 and 2015 competition year. It will be open to the public and will be free of charge.
Among the shortlisted films are favourites such as “We Need to Break Up” by Bradley Liew and Choong Khuen from Malaysia, “Rice Border Love” by Supawit Buaket from Thailand, “Rice” by Sothea Ines from Cambodia and “Moth in Twilight” by J.E. Tiglao from the Philippines.
According to Tropfest SEA managing director Joe Sidek says: “We are very proud to bring these short films to the Kuala Lumpur audience for the first time this year in conjunction with YSDAF. These short films are a celebration of the wealth of talents and creativity already flourishing in the region.
“With a commitment and dedication to provide an avenue for young independent talents, it is an honour for us to encourage creative innovations and interpretations of the arts among the younger generation.
“We urge fans of moving images, art enthusiasts and the public in general not to miss the screening and give their full support towards the local short film scene.”
The Best of Tropfest SEA will mark the completion of a trio of Satellite Shows organised in the run-up to the YSDAF2016. The earlier two Satellite Shows were the “Main Wayang – Hikayat Sang Kancil” held in August and “3 Faces 2015” which was held in September.
A biennial event funded by Yayasan Sime Darby, YSDAF aims to be a catalyst for the arts and provide a platform for Malaysian talents to showcase their work.
