SINGAPORE, Oct 21 — You’ve seen Kendall Jenner wear it. Now you can too: The H&M x Balmain collection was introduced with much fanfare in New York (7.30am today, Singapore time), with a star studded runway show — and a Backstreet Boys performance to boot.

Over in Singapore, we got a sneak peek into what’s H&M is bringing to our shores next month. Gilded and ostentatious with plenty of exquisite beading, velvet, suede, military-inspired jackets and embroidery — the Balmain x H&M collection is exactly what you would expect from the French haute couture fashion house. Its pieces in this collaboration with the Swedish high street fashion has the brand’s classic touches, whether it is in the glamorous jackets with pronounced shoulders and tight pearl beading or the chunky belts, or the faux fur and baroque-style jackets. It practically screams Balmain, but at a lower price point.

Still, the items are not that purse-friendly for the regular H&M consumer. At the lower end, a simple bodycon dress is S$119 (RM368), while a velvet dress costs S$249. Skirts and pants range from S$99 to $549 depending on the material. A long sleeve embroidered blouse will set you back by S$249. For men, sweaters range from S$99 to S$159 while pants are between S$139 to S$449. Blazers are between S$159 to S$449.

The collection’s most expensive items are the black-white-and-gold sequined dress for women, and the embroidered jacket for men. They are set at S$899. The cheapest among the clothing line? A tube top, which costs S$39.90. (Rings are going at S$24.90. Earrings are S$59.99, while belts are going from S$99 to S$299.)

Launching worldwide on November 5 (yes, that includes Singapore), the collection will be available at H&M Singapore’s flagship store at Orchard Building, and selected pieces will also be available at its ION Orchard store.

You might want to zero in on the collection’s limited edition pieces — the gold embellished dress, pink embellished dress, sequined dress and embroidered blouse for women, and the embroidered jacket and leather jacket with emblem for men. There will only be a few pieces available — and yes, that means less than 10.

Don’t expect the pieces to be available for long though — last year’s collaboration with Alexander McQueen saw long queues and the items were snapped up within the first day. — TODAY
