VENICE, Aug 22 — As summer winds down and crowds disperse, against-the-grain travellers may find it the perfect moment to plan a weekend getaway. For art-lovers with only a few days to spare, we recommend a few events and venues to see in Venice in the coming months.

Art Biennale

With the 56th Venice Art Biennale currently under way and running through November 22, there is no shortage of art-related events happening throughout the picturesque Italian city. Works of more than 136 artists are on display from the Central Pavilion to the Giardini area and the Arsenale, while 44 collateral events are exhibited in various locations around the city.

“Becoming Marni”

Italian fashion label Marni is celebrating its 20th birthday with an installation by Brazilian artist Véio of 100 wooden sculptures in the San Gregorio Abbey, an area is normally off-limits to the public. Drawing on the phrase “All the world’s futures” — the theme of the Biennale — the exhibition imagines an ideal world and a scenario that might belong to the future. Runs through November 22.

“Proportio”

At the Palazzo Fortuny through November 22, “Proportio” unravels the mysteries and allure of the golden ratio and other universal proportions found in art, music, architecture and science. Egyptian artefacts join works by Giacometti, Botticelli, Dutch Old Masters, Le Corbusier, Ellsworth Kelly, Anish Kapoor and more, while Marina Abramovic has created a site-specific sound installation called “Ten thousand stars” offering viewers “a sonic journey into the universe.”

Pollock at the Guggenheim

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is hosting three major Pollock exhibitions. “Alchemy” (through September 14) welcomes back Jackson Pollock’s first so-called drip painting — one of the museum’s most prized works — after a year of restoration, while the Abstract Expressionist masterpiece “Mural” is the focus of “’Mural:’ Energy Made Visible” (ending November 16), which follows the 20-foot-long work’s 18-month restoration. “Charles Pollock: A Retrospective” (through September 14) looks at the work of Jackson’s older brother, an abstract artist in his own right.
