NEW YORK, July 21 — Asking a girl to marry you is nerve-wracking, but asking her whole family even so. This inspiring young man, Tyler Shelton, goes as far dedicating his wedding proposal to his girlfriend’s late father. 

Shelton has filmed every single day of his 20s so far — including the day he proposed to Haylee Rose, his girlfriend of seven years. Though they’d been together forever, Rose’s dad Greg passed before Shelton was able to ask him permission to marry his daughter. This proposal video is Shelton’s tribute to him.

In the video, he tells Greg: “I’m going to marry your daughter. I always thought of how I was going to ask for your blessing one day, and now that day is here. I wish you were here to hand your baby girl off to me, so I promise to be more than you would ever want me to be.”

“I’ll make you proud to call me your son,” Taylor says at the end of video.

After seeking the individual blessings of his girlfriend’s siblings, Tyler Shelton proposed to her on a street in Rome in this Instagram picture he proudly shared.
