NEW YORK, July 19 — Matthew Walzer wrote a letter to Nike in 2012 not expecting them to respond. Walzer has cerebral palsy and while he prides himself on being fairly self-sufficient, one thing he still needs help with is tying his shoes due to the lack of mobility in one hand.
On hearing about Walzer's predicament, Nike came up with the Zoom Soldier 8 Flyease: a special basketball sneaker that could easily be put on with just one hand. It made Walzer's day to receive the very first Flyease model, as well as meeting his hero LeBron. Why is this a big deal? When a big brand makes accomodations for differently-abled people, it becomes easier for other brands to follow suit.
