SINGAPORE, July 3 — After touring the international festival circuit, “To Singapore, with Love” is now available for purchase on DVD and video-streaming site, Vimeo… to everyone but individuals residing in Singapore, that is.
Singapore filmmaker Tan Pin Pin made the announcement yesterday on the film’s Facebook page and official website.
Last September, the film about Singapore’s political exiles was given a “Not Allowed for All Ratings” (NAR) classification by the Media Development Agency (MDA), on the grounds that it “undermined national security.”
Essentially, this means it cannot be screened publicly and distributed in Singapore.
It also means those with IP addresses that are based in Singapore will also be blocked by the MDA from watching the film on Vimeo.
“To Singapore, with Love” has won numerous awards, garnering praise from critics, laypersons and fellow film directors.
