LOS ANGELES, June 21 — Sixty six surfers from Huntington Beach celebrate after riding the world's largest surfboard as they break the 'Guinness Book of Records' record for the largest number of surfers ever to ride a wave on a single surfboard, at Huntington Beach, yesterday, according to AFP.
A Guinness World Record official says a separate assessment to determine if the 1,300-pound (589-kg) surfboard is the world’s largest will take several days.
The previous record was 47 surfers who rode a wave for 10 seconds in Queensland, Australia about a decade ago.
The 42-foot (12.8-metre) custom-made board was towed into the wave by jet skis before being released to surf a wave for a minimum of 10 seconds under its own momentum.
Around 5,000 people were present to watch the attempt at the California beach.
