LONDON, May 31 — A new game based on a simplified version of the Ouija board is taking over social media.
The UK’s Daily Telegraph reported that thousands have taken up the Charlie, Charlie Challenge after a number of videos surfaced purporting to show spooky goings-on.
Participants play the game by placing two pencils on a piece of paper in the shape of the cross with the words ‘yes’ and ‘no’.
They then repeat the phrase “Charlie, Charlie can we play?” in order to connect with the spirit of a dead Mexican called Charlie.
If the ghost is there, the pencils will move to indicate his answer.

While most view the game as light-hearted fun, a Vatican-approved exorcist was quoted by the Catholic News Agency as warning against the dangers of playing the game.
Spanish priest Jose Antonio Fortea said the game poses a real danger as it involves the summoning of spirits.
He cautioned, “Some spirits who are at the root of that practice will harass some of those who play the game.”
Even though players “won’t be possessed,” the spirit that has been summoned “will stay around for a while.”
