NEW YORK, Oct 28 — Half of US renters are planning to stay home this Halloween while the other half heads out in to the night, a new survey reveals.

Figures from Apartments.com reveal that almost 50 per cent of tenants will be stocking up on fake cobwebs and other ghoulish accessories to decorate their homes for the occasion.

Meanwhile 41 per cent will be stopping by the candy store to make sure they are prepared to greet trick-or-treaters, while 13 per cent will leave snacks outside the door. Eleven per cent say they won’t be giving out candy this year.

For those planning to feed the neighbourhood witches and ghouls, chocolate will be the most popular choice — although 27 per cent of people will be handing out healthy snacks instead and three per cent will give away money.

According to the survey, the most popular costume will be a witch, with the second-most popular option being people dressing up as “themselves.” Cats or catwomen came in at third place, while fourth position was a tie among bats, Batman, zombies, pirates and vampires.

Those staying in might well choose to watch “Halloween,” voted as the scariest film of all time by participants.
