TAICHUNG, Oct 15 — Architect Richard Meier has unveiled images of his new Taiwanese skyscraper, currently under construction in the city of Taichung.
At 163 meters high, the Taichung Condominium Tower will be a luxury residential building offering panoramic views of the cityscape.
The elegant structure comprises a North Tower and a South Tower with different heights connected by a common core.
The formal, ordered and geometric North Tower faces the larger city scale to the north, whilst the more expressive and sculptural form of the South Tower opens onto the smaller-scale residential fabric to the south.
The main facade of the South Tower is articulated with a gently curved white translucent glass screen, with solar shading systems combining with solid surfaces to modulate varying degrees of exposure to the sun.
“The new tower responds to the scale of city’s existing fabric while sustaining the modern architectural dialogue which we continue to refine and explore throughout our work,” explains Pritzker Prize winner Meier.
Each apartment will have city views, and a communal Sky Garden on the 16th floor of the North Tower provides a dramatic viewing platform for residents to share.
Construction of the building, created with real estate company Fubon Land, is set for completion in 2018. — AFP/Relaxnews
