LONDON, July 4 ― The airline has finally unveiled the fruits of its collaboration with renegade luxury designer Vivienne Westwood.

The full 30th anniversary uniform rebrand for Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic airline by Westwood puts a focus on sustainability and originality: fabrics include a polyester yarn made from recycled plastic bottles with a nano finish to keep the colour and the garments fresh for as long as possible.

For the ladies Westwood reworked her classic Bettina jacket from the early 1990s with a matching red pencil skirt with a dart on the rear, while men get a Savile Row-inspired three-piece suit in deep burgundy wool. Bags are provided by the Ethical Fashion Initiative in Nairobi in collaboration with the International Trade Centre.

Vivienne Westwood's uniforms will appear on over 7,500 staff, with 22 different pieces in total for cabin crew, pilots and ground staff.

Recent uniform launches include Martin Grant's designs for Australian flag carrier Quantas (unveiled by Miranda Kerr), and American Airlines' forthcoming collaboration with Ken Kaufman and Isaac Franco of KAaufmanFranco.

The launch was supported with a party in London with Westwood and Branson hosting celebrities including Debbie Harry, Naomie Harris, and Kelis. ― AFP-Relaxnews
