Future FitBit devices may add atmospheric analysis, heart-rate sensors

NEW YORK, JUNE 21 — New Bits that could soon be unveiled in the wireless world include Fitbit Surge, Fitbit Charge and the PurePulse.

Blog Zatz Not Funny! found US trademark listings said to contain the wearable devices, which, in the wake of the FitBit Force recall, could breathe new life into the brand.

The PurePulse is missing the FitBit trademark, leading to speculation that it may be a spin-off brand in the making. The fitness-focused tracker would guide users towards achieving optimal heart rates while providing information pertaining to exertion, calorie-burning and assessing intensity levels.

The FitBit Surge measures atmospheric conditions such as wind speed and temperature, which indicates that it could be useful to runners and sailors, among other athletes.

It has a pedometer, altimeter, GPS and speed tracker as well as the capacity to track sleep.

The display screen would make it possible to map routes and even notify users of incoming smartphone calls and messages.

Finally, the FitBit Charge has the same features as the Surge, minus the atmospheric and GPS functions.

With Apple's iWatch due out later this year, FitBit is not the only company looking to amp up its activity tracking services. Earlier this week, the Nike+ FuelBand companion app was released in a long-awaited version for Android. — AFP-Relaxnews
