PARIS, Nov 27 ― The 91-year-old French designer showed a one-off couture collection at Maxim’s in Paris.

One of fashion’s oldest innovators, and known for inventing the Bubble dress in 1954 and popularising modernist, Space Age cuts and materials, Pierre Cardin is a bona fide fashion legend.

Hence the excitement last night in Paris when the veteran designer presented an off-calendar couture collection, his first show since 1996.

Cardin is owner of the famed Maxim’s restaurant and used the Art Nouveau space on the Rue Royale to host the presentation.

“I staged fashion shows for 60 years of my life, and now I want to stand on my own, to show when I feel like it. I no longer want to have any obligations,” Cardin told WWD. “I’m at home here. I can decide what I want. I am free ― I don’t depend on anyone.”

The collection mixed men’s and womenswear pieces, featuring appliqué work, satin bows, tuxedo-style tailoring and floral references. The show also marked the 60th anniversary of Cardin’s first ever show under his own name. ― AFP-Relaxnews
