KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 — Born against the backdrop of the forbidding mountains in the Scottish Highlands. Drawing life from the icy waters of the River Livet. Expertly crafted with care.
The single malt whisky bearing the name The Glenlivet hails from a place where whisky making is as natural as breathing.
So smooth and versatile is this single malt that it can be enjoyed with well, almost anything.
It goes with salmon and various cheeses. And cuts of meat. Now how about ice cream or North Indian cuisine? Gourmet coffee or oysters? Or even, roast pork?
Yes, yes, yes and absolutely yes would be the answer you get if you were to ask a Guardian of The Glenlivet from the Malaysian chapter.
Discovering the interesting variety of cuisine that can go with The Glenlivet is an adventure.
Take at the pairing with gourmet coffee. Like whisky, different coffee beans produce different notes. With a cup of coffee in one hand, and a dram of whisky in another, Guardians got to taste three different coffees with The Glenlivet 12 Year Old, 15 Year Old and 18 Year Old.
A recent pairing saw Vom Fass oils being used in canapés and of course, served with glasses of The Glenlivet.
A very recent tasting saw Guardians dripping Vom Fass Oils onto bites of canapes and pairing them with The Glenlivet.
These are just a few of the many, many experiential tastings that have greeted the Guardians of The Glenlivet since the Malaysian chapter kicked off in November 2013.
Every month, Guardians look forward to an evening of inspired pairing.
“Truly a drink that can be enjoyed in so many ways, we even had an evening where it wasn’t about pairing with any food at all,” said Lionel Lau, Brand Ambassador for The Glenlivet in Malaysia.
“Instead, Guardians enjoyed an evening that consisted of a haircut at the oldest barbershop in the world, Truefitt and Hill, and tasting an elegant dram of whisky or two from The Glenlivet’s core range.”
The takeaway here is that a whisky partnership can go beyond finding the next food pairing revelation. Especially with a single malt like The Glenlivet, where 200 years of history reside in every bottle.
The rules are not cast in stone when it comes to matching whisky with food, or anything else for that matter. It is but a matter of taste and inspiration.
Of course, very little beats the joy of a dram in good company.
