LOS ANGELES, Oct 25 — Licorice is usually sweet, as befitting its status as a candy, but would you eat super salty version of it?

Salmiakki is a type of super salty licorice that is popular in Finland, Sweden and Norway.

Its name comes from the Latin name for ammonium chloride, sal ammoniacus, which means ‘Salt of Ammon’.

The Latin term refers to a place in Egypt where ancient Greeks first found the substance, the Temple of Ammon, also called ‘Amun’ after the deity its named after.
