SINGAPORE, Oct 23 — Jenny Bakery has opened its first branch outside Hong Kong in Singapore.
The Hong Kong bakery is famous for its butter and coffee cookies, almond flakes and nougat packed in the store’s signature tins that are decorated with pictures of teddy bears.
Apparently, the bakery is so popular that it sells more 5,000 boxes of butter cookies a day in Hong Kong.
It also enforces a strict three tin quota to discourage resale of the cookies on the black market.
According to the Straits Times, people braved the haze that is currently blanketing Singapore to start queuing outside the Ang Mo Kio store from 9.45am this morning.
Although originally scheduled to open at 11am, the store opened its doors at 10.30am to accommodate the crowd, the newspaper added.
It is understood that a large box of 4 Mix Butter Cookies, with butter, coffee, shortbread and raisin oat cookies, costs S$45 (RM137), while a small one is priced at S$25.
By comparison, the price of a large tin of 4 Mix Butter Cookies is HK$130 in Hong Kong.
