MUMBAI, July 25 — In the past, pizza deliverymen had to worry about dealing with unexpected downpours, being chased by unfriendly neighbourhood dogs and getting lost.

Their Indian counterparts now have even more to worry about: namely, the country’s disorganised train stations, maze of platforms and notoriously unreliable trains.

If you live in northern India, you can order Domino’s Pizza and have it waiting for you as your train pulls up at the station.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the fast-food chain introduced the service in February, giving its customers the option of placing their orders (at least two hours before the train arrives at a particular station) by phone, text or the Internet.

The initiative started with 41 stations close to its franchises in India’s northern region, but the company plans to add dozens of different routes across the country’s rail network in the coming months, the newspaper added.

The service, however, has been a little slow taking off.

Domino’s admitted to WSJ that only 350 orders have been placed so far, and that its staff managed to deliver all but four orders.

Other fast-food chains like Pizza Hut, KFC and Subway are reportedly negotiating a similar arrangement with India’s railway authorities.
