Audrey Hepburn’s son offers glimpse into her kitchen in new cookbook

LOS ANGELES, June 24 — Audrey Hepburn’s son Luca Dotti has written a recipe book called “Audrey at Home”, in which he shares his personal memories of his mother’s life as well as her cooking skills.

In a recent interview with food magazine Bon Appetit, he divulged a few food-related insights into the woman the world loves from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “Sabrina”, but whom he knew only as “mom”.

Here are some of the highlights from the conversation:

1. She baked

Breakfast often consisted of bread, butter, homemade jam and the kids’ favourites: Hepburn’s muffin-like madeleines.

Dotti shares his personal memories of his mother’s life in the new cookbook.

2. She was as elegant at home as she was onscreen

“She would always cut bread into fingers, so it was easy to eat,” Dotti said.

3. Her favourite recipes

Baked stuffed potatoes and soy sauce chicken.

4. Mealtimes were for family

Dotti said, “It was important to my mother, and for our family, that we gather around the table, especially when we were more grown up and not living in the house anymore.”

5. Her favourite food

Chocolate cake and pasta with tomato sauce. “She was crazy for pasta. All of her girlfriends were impressed that she would have two dishes in a row.”

6. Her vices

Wine and a good Scotch.
