GEORGE TOWN, June 16 — Awesome Canteen finally opened for business here yesterday and to celebrate, the cafe is offering mini chicken ramen bowls at only RM2 each.

Awesome’s sister restaurant Prologue in Petaling Jaya is already getting quite a reputation for its ramen offerings so don’t miss out on this promotion as it ends on Wednesday.

If you have always wondered what paleo meals are about, Awesome Canteen at Sekeping Victoria here has the answers.

Paleo, a popular diet where all processed food is cut out, simply means there are no bread, pasta or grains with the meal so their paleo "burger" is really chicken or beef patties with mushrooms as the "burger bun.”

The eatery, well-known for its paleo menu in Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya, will also offer a range of lip-smacking goodies from pasta to sandwiches and thick gourmet burgers.

"We want to offer something different in our Penang outlet so that our customers' experience at our three different outlets will not be the same,"  said co-owner Diane Ong.

Ong and her team from Taman Paramount are now in Penang to train the Penang team and ensure smooth operations of the new cafe.

"We have been eyeing this space for so long as we love the feel of the place, so we are really happy to finally open here at Sekeping Victoria," she said.

The menu in Penang has island-inspired burgers called the Island Beef or Chicken Burgers where pineapple slices are added to the burgers for a tangy, summery feel, befitting an island setting.

In the sandwiches section, they offer pulled beef sandwiches which is a marriage of tender roast beef with sweet mangoes and given a slight zest by the wasabi mayo.

For those who prefer something vegetarian, there is the wild mushroom sandwich which is equally satisfying served with cheese, caramelised onions on its artisanal white bread slathered in wasabi mayo.

Their Paleo Menu is similar to the one over in Taman Paramount where there is a choice of Paleo eggplant, beef patty, chicken patty, butterfish fillet, chicken or beef "burger.”

Awesome Canteen, which is open from 10am to 10pm, also features Spacebar Coffee which is here to serve up its signature drinks, some that are only specific to Penang.

This includes black tonic — a smooth concoction of espresso over tonic water with ice; red tonic -- a refreshing sparkling drink made with cold brew cascara; cascara tea — tea made out of dried coffee cherries and Japanese ice-style coffee — a light smooth filter coffee with different flavours.
