SUBANG JAYA, Dec 20 — Since it opened its doors last year in Bangsar, Inside Scoop has become one of KL’s much loved ice-cream shops. Today, Inside Scoop opens its third outlet in USJ Taipan.

The pull-factor for their fans is their lusciously smooth ice-cream, in local favourite flavours like durian and cempedak. Pair it with their fluffy buttermilk waffles and you have a winner!

Each of their ice-cream shops have a different look — the Bangsar one is a cosy nook while Damansara Jaya exudes a carefree feel with swings as seats and slouchy beanbags perfect for lounging.

For their Subang outlet, Inside Scoop’s Lim Shiew Li wanted the place to have a happy, fresh and fun feel. The shop is divided into two types of seating areas: conventional tables and chairs and a communal lounge area.

There is also an outside area for those who prefer to hang-out and watch the traffic go by. Kick off your shoes and relax at the grassy lounge area brightened up with a Chevron yellow striped wall.

There’s also a touch of whimsy with a pink and white barberpole and wheels to replicate an ice-cream cart. Renovations for the shop took around 5 weeks to complete.

The menu is the same like all their other outlets. You have a choice of 12 different flavours of ice-cream like Valrhona chocolate, XO cranberry or pistachio that can be ordered on its own or paired with a choice of homemade waffle cones or made-to-order waffles.

“It’s the same thing like waffles and ice-cream but we’re bringing it to Subang.” When they looked at Subang, they picked the USJ Taipan area versus the SS15 area. “That area is too densely populated with cafes and it just felt right to open here.”

The shop also has a policy of hiring young local kids as part-timers to scoop ice-cream as they believe customer interaction is important especially when it comes to sampling and choosing flavours.

This heightens their customers’ satisfaction, making them come back for more. Most of the part-timers are from the nearby colleges and universities. “Scooping ice-cream is always a fun job so we’re not short of part-timers.”

For their grand opening today and to celebrate their first year anniversary, Inside Scoop will be giving out free scoops to customers until stocks last. As an extra perk, the first 10 customers also stand a chance to win a scoop of ice-cream per day for one whole month.

With three outlets under their belt, Shiew Li does not dismiss the possibility of future outlets. “We’re always on the look out.”

For the upcoming Christmas period, Inside Scoop will be closing all their outlets for the festivities. On Christmas Eve, they close early at 6pm and the whole day on Christmas Day as Shiew Li believes a break is much needed. “Everyone needs to celebrate Christmas with their family.”

One thing for sure, eating ice-cream at Inside Scoop is always a pleasure. Welcome to ice-cream heaven, Subang Jaya residents!
