KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 — These eateries have popped up within the busy mall to cater to our never-ending appetite of food and drinks. Here’s a look at these places:
Tiffin’s by Chef Korn T-068 and T-069, Third Floor, Mid Valley Megamall
Fans of Chef Korn Yodsuk from Erawan Classic Thai & Fusion restaurant will be thrilled with the opening of its casual dining offshoot. Unlike Erawan, this menu is more approachable (no pre-booking required!) with a porcine slant and an array of simpler dishes.
It’s also peppered with set meals that include a daily appetiser and a Thai-based salad. Expect soul-satisfying fare like pork soup noodles, pad Thai with Chef Korn’s special sauce, and rice paired with stewed pork knuckle.
The pork and beef noodles also have a carb-free option, making it ideal for weight watchers.
Go for lunch for a wider option of the set meals. This includes the North Eastern Thai (Isan) style set. The set come in different sizes, with the smallest for 2-3 persons while the largest is for 4-6 persons.
Expect a platter filled with papaya salad, sticky rice, BBQ meat, fresh vegetables and vermicelli. Isan cuisine is rarely found outside of Thailand and this is the only place in Kuala Lumpur that serves it.
Don’t miss the desserts, a forte of Chef Korn’s. Most of the desserts are served with fresh coconut milk, like the candied bananas, yam and sweet potato, glutinous rice balls, and sago delight.
Look for the fragrant Thai cendol, a plainer “white” version that uses coconut milk and Thai palm sugar. Unlike our local dark brown palm sugar, the Thai variant is a lighter brown shade but just as aromatic.
There is also homemade ice-cream for RM5.80 per scoop. The restaurant also sells specially curated Thai candies, pork crackers and snacks, good for a take-away present for food lovers.
Come enjoy a cup of coffee made from the famed Blue Mountain coffee beans and watch the world go by.
Jamaica Blue Fine Coffees FK-05, First Floor, Mid Valley Megamall
Originally from Sydney, the cafe is part of an Australian chain of 130 cafes with a presence in New Zealand, China, the Middle East and Singapore. In Malaysia, the franchise is held by public listed HCK Capital Berhad. There are plans to open up to eight outlets by 2015 within the Klang Valley.
Located on the first floor atrium near Metrojaya department store, you order from the standalone kiosk. Food and drinks is delivered to your table that is located around the atrium, which offers you a sweeping view of the ground floor.
The distinction from the other cafes is the use of Jamaican coffee beans from the famed Wallenford Estate, one of the oldest coffee growing estates in Jamaica’s Blue Mountains region.
Expect to pay double the price for the single origin beans as compared to their own house blend. The Jamaica Blue signature blend is made from Arabica beans sourced from five regions around the world.
Fans can also purchase the beans, whole or ground. Non-coffee drinkers can opt for choices like milkshakes, fruit smoothies, iced tea and chocolate frappes.
The menu is slanted towards breakfast items like muesli, pancakes and frittatas. The popular morning treat, Eggs Benedict comes in four variations with different toppings such as sauteed mushrooms, smoked salmon, wilted spinach and turkey ham.
For a lunch, go for the salads, sandwiches or their heavier meals like a wasabi crumbed chicken burger, beef and vegetable lasagne, or beef & caramelised onion pastry rolls.
You also have ready-to-go options like sandwiches, croissants and pastry rolls. The sweet-toothed can order cakes, cookies, assorted friands and old school rock cakes studded with raisins.

Shucked Oyster and Seafood Bar T-K03, Third Floor, The Gardens
Replicating their successful seafood bar concept in Publika, this place offers an all-day menu filled with fresh bounty from the seas. Start with a selection of freshly shucked oysters. You can have fun tasting the different variants, like France’s Fine de Claire, Irish Gallaghers, and Netherlands Creuses, to determine which is your favourite.
The creamy oysters are perfect paired with a glass of chilled white wine, Prosecco or champagne. For the squeamish who prefer to eat the oysters cooked, they also offer the molluscs baked with cheese or Florentine style with spinach and Parmesan cheese.
All the seafood is brought in by Southern Rock Seafood on a weekly basis. In the morning, tuck into a traditional English breakfast with kippers paired with poached eggs, or smoked salmon with scrambled eggs.
Light meals like salads can be ordered with smoked fish or prawns. Hot meals such as grilled fish and prawns are also on the menu.
Fresh fish like Tasmanian petuna ocean trout, Australian yellowtail kingfish and New Zealand wild caught snapper can also be ordered sashimi style. The fish is served with your choice of sushi rice or bread. Other shellfish like mussels and clams are also available.
