MILFORD, May 20 — Sandwich chain Subway has announced ambitious plans to expand its global footprint and open another 3,000 new locations around the world this year — a move poised to widen the gap between itself and burger rival McDonald’s.

As it stands, McDonald’s says it has more than 35,000 restaurants around the world. Subway says it counts 41,800 restaurants and outlets in 105 countries.

Driving the openings will be the continued emphasis on “location, location, location,” says the company, with restaurants opening in both traditional and non-traditional venues like standalone restaurants or train stations and sporting venues. — AFP-Relaxnews
