LONDON, Oct 11 — He may not be a household name among North American audiences but controversial, acid-tongued and highly entertaining British food critic Giles Coren will be bringing his views to Canadian and American TV audiences in a show that aims to find the best dining destination on the continent.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “caustic” restaurant critic for The Times UK will be sent out to comb the continent looking for an eatery he deems worth a review.

The winning restaurant will earn a rave international review from the influential writer, a review show producers claim is worth a US$1 million (RM3.2 million) in extra business.

Coren (pic) is well-known among British readers not only for his sometimes ruthless reviews but also for getting himself into controversial gaffes for everything from tweets blasted in bad taste (he once jokingly threatened to kill a 12-year-old neighbour for practising the drums) to anti-Polish sentiments regarding the Holocaust.

He has also feuded with René Redzepi and taken potshots at Anthony Bourdain on Twitter.

“Million Dollar Critic” is a collaborative project between BBC America, and Canada’s W Network and Temple Street Productions.

The hour-long series is scheduled to air on W and BBC America in 2014. — AFP/Relaxnews
